One of the holiest places in Eretz Yisroel is the ancient city of Tzefat. Every year, tens of thousands of Jews visit the city’s old Beis Hachayim to pray near the graves of the Ari Zal, Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, Rabbi Shlomo Alkabetz, Rabbi Yosef Karo, author of the Shulchan Aruch, and more recent Tzaddikim, such as Rabbi Chaim of Chernowitz, author of Be’er Mayim Chaim, among many others. However, Tzefat endured many years of hardship and indignity. By the early twentieth century, hardly a trace remained of her former glory.

In the late 1960’s, the TZEFAT FOUNDATION was instituted by the late Rabbi Gedalyah Kenig Zt”l in order to recreate a Torah observant community in this legendary city. After twenty years of hard work, his dream came true: a core group of one hundred Kollel families, together with several yeshivos and Chassidic groups again raised the banner of Torah in Tzefat. B’chasdei Hashem, the religious community has continued to grow. However, the difficult economic condition of the region has been a formidable obstacle to the pioneers who settled there. Many families have no income but their Kollel check. Even the basic necessities of Shabbos and Yom Tov are beyond their means. As a result, the organization EIZER L’SHABBOS was established to provide staple foods for legitimately needy families. These foods are obtained at discount prices.

By sponsoring a Shabbos meal for a family in Tzefat, you help Jews who truly need your assistance. Thus, you fulfill the mitzvah of Hachnosas Orchim on a very high level. For $50 you can sponsor a small family’s Shabbos meals. For $100 you can sponsor a large family’s Shabbos meals. Monthly sponsorship for a small family amounts to $2,600. Yearly sponsorship for a large family totals $5,200.
